The North Lanarkshire Council Early Years Team, wanted to promote the use of ICT in Early Years establishments and to highlight good practice taking place. The result was this innovative ICT in Early Years materials pack.
Target AudienceThe pack was intended for
• Early Years and Childcare staff
• Early Stages primary staff
• Workforce development staff
• Students in training
The IdeaIt was decided to select five examples of the way in which ICT is embedded in practice in Early Years establishments through the authority, and to showcase them in a DVD. This provided an overview of examples of good practice, and offered staff some discussion points and helped them to develop their pedagogy in ICT.
The ProcessThe Learning Centre visited 5 pioneering establishments in North Lanarkshire and filmed the following examples of good practice.
Baird Memorial:Children accessing ICT equipment and how it is adapted to suit individual needs.
Calderhead:Healthy Living context to promote and enhance learning and teaching across the curriculum.
New Monklands:ICT to enhance and develop learning experiences through the context of the jungle.
Piccolo:Interacting with ICT resources in the outdoor area.
Shawhead:ICT throughout the curriculum.
This raw footage was then edited into a DVD presentation. From this video footage The Learning Centre used screen grabs as a basis on which to produce extensive colour illustrations, which were used in supporting printed materials. These printed materials included a handbook and a series of innovative pop-up posters.
