Digital Stamps

The Digital Stamp Project was based upon an idea already undertaken on paper which was adapted for the computer. As part of this project pupils discussed and viewed the work of Austrian Artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Resources from The Royal Mail showing stamp design past and present were also reviewed in class before pupils began their own artwork.

The Stamp process

Pupils produced their own artwork in class, drawing on cartridge paper and inking it in black pen before scanning it into the computer. Using Photoshop elements, industry standard software, gives the pupils a greater currency in skills when they leave school to pursue a career in graphics. However any graphics software that can be sourced will give pupils exposure to the concept of digital graphics i.e. the interface, the tools, file formats etc.

Examples of pupils work

The completed stamps worked very well and pupils were delighted with the results. The project on the computer took three lessons each lasting approximately fifty-five minutes.
