Supporting Your Child.com

The Learning Centre has helped develop a website for North Lanarkshire libraries to help parents of primary school children enhance their children's knowledge of the library and how it works. The site offers parents advice specific to the school year of their child and has been developed to complement the library skills children are taught as part of the primary curriculum.

There are games and challenges for children to try with their parents to encourage them to use searching, referencing and organisational skills to complete tasks which are directly related to their school work.

The games are developed in Flash and cover a wide array of skills including: identify the order of books; the differences and purposes of fiction and non-fiction; finding information on specific subjects; the Dewey-Decimal system; and using encyclopedias.
