The Learning Centre is based in Bellshill Academy where it provided a range of specialist services for over five years. These included: Supporting the use of ICT in the Classroom and with extra curricular activities; Staff training; Technical support and expertise; and Design services.

The Rushes

We all know the power of music. For many it has been the route out of a life of poverty. For others it has been a route into a life of drugs and alcohol abuse.


Religious Education and Mind Mapping

Mind Maps are used within the R.E. department in order to help pupils increase the quality of thinking and understanding. The Mind Maps help pupils to organise ideas, both their own and those of other people.


History and Geography…

Using video editing technology as a learning tool in the study of the history and geography of Bellshill is one of a number of modern learning ideas developed as a means of improving pupil learning.

World War One…

Aimed at Standard Grade pupils with the aim of bringing a new awareness and understanding to the First World War, this project also introduces pupils to the idea of researching information from a variety of sources.

Urban Art

A group of thirteen year old pupils were caught drawing graffiti in The Learning Centre, no cans of spray paint were found, it was all done on computers.

The move to Secondary School…

For a number of years The Learning Centre ran a project in Partnership with Bellshill Academy's associated primary schools to give every P7 pupil the chance to explore the transition into secondary school through the use of Digital Video Technology.

Piggy in the Middle

The 4XL group is an alternative curriculum group working outside the traditional subject areas. Thanks to the The Learning Centre they produced a realistic video exploring relationships between young people and the police.

Mock Election January 2005

Holding a mock election in the school was seen as a way of improving pupils’ knowledge of the election process and generally stimulating their interest in politics. Producing their campaign materials digitally and voting online was the icing on the cake.

Home Economics and ICT

The Learning Centre worked with the Home Economics Department at Bellshill Academy on how to introduce ICT into the curriculum. The results included digital mindmapping and an interactive microsite.

Dulce et Decorum Est

Poetry is an oral tradition with strong roots in Scottish culture. In this project pupils were able to paint a picture of a poem, a picture of sounds created on their computer, through the power of radio drama.

Digital Stamps

The Digital Stamp Project was based upon an idea already undertaken on paper which was adapted for the computer. Pupils get to create their own Stamp designs using Photoshop Elements.

Academy of Sound

The Learning Centre held a Talent Show with the acts that made it all the way to the final of the competition receiving the opportunity to record in the professional environment of The Learning Centre's recording studio.
