North Lanarkshire Council :: Supporting Your Child

In North Lanarkshire, we are committed to ensuring that our pupils are given the opportunity to develop and practise information skills.

It is very important for everyone to know how to find and make use of information.

Information can be located in a variety of ways, for example, in a book or on the internet. Understanding how to get information out of a book or from a website and realising how to make use of the information you have found, are all important skills.

It is vital for children to understand basic research skills as many activities and projects which your child will be involved in are now based around completing investigations in the school library, the public library and on the internet.

As a parent, you can help your child by encouraging him or her to learn and practise library and information skills at each stage of their learning.

The skills will help your child to:

  • Use the library properly
  • Learn where to get the best information for themselves
  • Improve on their topic work and general knowledge

This site will give you, as a parent or carer, an idea of some of the information skills that children learn from Primary 1 to Primary 7. These skills not only show children how to use the library and how to access information, they also help them in the completion of their studies.

In order to use this website properly you will need to install the latest Flash Player plug-in. Click the button below to download it.
